History in Nutshell: Along the coast of the Baltic Sea, just north of the Lithuanians was the group of Balts called the Curonians, who inhabited what's now the coastal region of Latvia. The Curonians fought with...well...practically everyone around them all the time. They were a warrior culture, warring against the vikings, Livonians, and especially didn't like the Samogitians. However, the did form alliances with Estonians. Despite their restlessness, the pagan culture succumbed to the Livonian Order during the crusades of the 13th century. A few centuries later, when the Livonian Order was disbanded, the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia was formed, which was small but rich, and even took part in the colonization of West Africa and the Caribbean. The two were a Duchy until nearly the 19th century, when they were annexed to Russian Empire until 1918. After World War 1 ended, Courland and Semigallia were briefly a duchy again, until Latvia was established, into which the duchy was absorbed. Courland is still a historical region of Latvia, now the Kurzeme Planning Region, which is the whole coastal region of Latvia, its northern half bordered by the Riga Region, and its southern half bordered by the Zemgale (Semigallia) Region.

Appearance: She has long, straight but thick sandy blonde hair with bangs, though sometimes stray curls can form due to the damp foggy climate of the area. She has a slightly rounded face, light tealish-blue eyes and sharp nose. Ieva is generally physically strong, though not as strong as she used to be. She often has a quiet, determined expression on her face.

Basic Personality:  Ieva used to be quite the bold and brazen person, but she has calmed down a bit. At least, she's calmed her temper and desire to go pirating. (Well, except maybe online) Still, she loves the sea and prefers to live near it. She likes boats, and likes to go out onto the Baltic during good weather, sometimes liking to drag Zemgale and her fellow coastal neighbor, Klaipėda County, with her.
